  • SANTA FE, July 17, 2011 (AFP) - Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez said he was "satisfied" with the performance of the team on Saturday, after the elimination of the host Argentina on penalties in the quarter-finals of the 2011 Copa America.
"We started to play the Copa America", the coach said, referring to the level that the team had shown in the tournament, which was lower than shown in the World Cup of South Africa-2010, when Uruguay finished as fourth.
Uruguay now faces Peru in the semifinals of the tournament. "We are very pleased; we knew the team was improving. With so much history, with a rival as well qualified, with the public against (...), we are very pleased. The difficulties can provide this performance showed by the group", said coach at the news conference.
"The more we needed, more we showed our football. Now let's celebrate too, but only in the locker room", he said.
On the next rival, Peru, Tabarez said he did not believe in favoritism and said it would be "a very difficult match."
"It will be a game of equals, and we'll see who will win", he said. "It will be very difficult, we must seek the victory because it is a sort of compromise with people who are waiting for it", ended.
